SEBASTIAN— New offices for the Indian River County tax collector, property appraiser and other county departments officially open July 31 with a ribbon cutting set for 9 a.m.

The new north county offices are at 1921 U.S. 1, just south of Walmart, and occupy about 8,400 square feet in a free-standing building purchased by Indian River County in 2017 for $2.7 million.

Over the past year, the county has spent about $1.8 million renovating about half of the strip mall into office space. In addition to the county, other tenants include a restaurant and a mattress store.

The county expects to generate about $175,000 per year in rent at Sebastian Corners, which will help pay the county's utility costs, county administrator Jason Brown said.

In addition to the tax collector and property appraiser, there will be offices for the county Utilities Department, clerk of the court and Veterans Services.

This will be the second municipal center opened in Indian River County in the past several months. The Oceanside County Complex opened June 3 at 3003 Cardinal Drive, Vero Beach.
